If you’re a student or recent grad, it’s likely that you’ve run into troubles of your own, whether you’ve lost your summer internships or are simply suffering from loss of income. Fortunately, good news is coming your way. This morning, Prime Minister Trudeau announced the introduction of a nine billion ($9B) stimulus package aimed at helping relieve the burden students are facing as a result of COVID-19. Currently, an official bill for the package has not been passed, but parliament has announced that discussion of legislation regarding the funding is already underway.
If you are a current student, or graduated in December of 2019, you are likely eligible for a monthly disbursement of $1250 per month from May to August of this year. That amount will increase to $1750 if you are a caretaker for someone else or have a recognized disability.
